Tripod or Monopod - help

I am thinking of getting a tripod/monopod and head for my new Nikon D300s.

What do you recommend

I have also posted redsnapper to see what he thinks.

Budget
Tripod/monopod £40
Head £40

But I am unsure if it will get used due to the speed of the camera and lens.

I like the idea of a monopod at shows (air and car)

speed of the camera is irrelevent, you use the shutter speed that you need to get the shot you want. A Redsnapper monopod would be fine although looking at your lenses I'd probably hand-hold.
