Tripod question

Having just sold my very sturdy Hama omega pro with 802RC2 head and regretting it due to getting a charity event job which means I need a tripod I have just ordered a Velbon 550R

How good are they and are they stable with a gripped D200 and 18-135 in landscape position, as you can see I dont normally bother with tripods but because its for a kids charity I am making sure the shots the mums n dads go away with are perfect as it may be the last one they get

So either its a pants tripod or no one can be bothered or no one has one........

the tripod came today and its quite nice but one question the column can be inverted for under tripod shots the head does come off but how do you invert the column to use this feature as the base the head screws onto will not shift

Mine can be inverted too, but it's pretty straight forward. Can you post a snap of it?
