Can anybody recommend a decent quality tripod that I can buy maybe second hand budget is really low at the moment maybe £60 pushing it until I get my new job (end of summer). Hope someone can advise me as I'm fed up with looking like a comedian photography doing the limbo following my camera as the tripod slides down.
 
The problem is that your present budget would not really buy you a good tripod, and as you have already discovered, cheap tripods are an waste of space. i'd strongly advise you to save the pennies for a good one.
 
I have one of the above Redsnapper kits. I have no issues with the legs, but the head is pretty mediocre. If you can, get the kit with the ball head (RHS-12) or the RS-528.

I've just replaced the 3 way head on mine with a Manfrotto 498RC2, because I managed to shear the threads on 2 screws...not good!
