Tripod Recommendations

Hi guys

First post on the forum.

I'm on the lookout for a reasonably lightweight tripod for landscape photography on the fells and also to take on my travels later in the year. It would be nice it is doesn't cost the earth as well!

Heaviest I'll be shooting with is a Nikon D40 with Nikkor 55-200 vr lens.

Quite like the look of the Manfrotto Modo 785B but understand it doesn't cope that well with heavier cameras. Would my set up be too heavy?

Interested on hearing other thoughts recommendations.

A lot of people on here use Redsnapper tripods, just do a forum search and you will find loads of info on them. For the price they are excellent and there is now a carbon fibre model available.

Thanks for the Redsnapper recommendations the carbon fibre looks nice!

Looking to keep the weight under 1.5kgs as the tripod will be being lugged with other stuff like climbing gear
 
I've just bought the Redsnapper...great piece of kit, very pleased with it...having said that the standard one is probably too heavy for your requirements. I do a fair bit of hiking around Snowdonia/Lake District and use my trusty Velbon Luxi F, quite sturdy and folds up nice and small, pretty lightweight too

Velbon CF-465 is working nicely for me at the moment. I've permanently removed the lower section of the centre column which means I can get it über low :D
