Tripod ring removal help no longer needed!!!

Sorry to sound a nerd... but I need quick help.

I have had my tripod ring on my Canon 70-200 F2.8 since I got it. I need to get it off and when ive undone the screw which leaves a 5mm gap in the ring... but the ring wont pull of the lens in either direction, front or back.

what am i doing wrong please?

Whatever yuo do, don't clean it

(It opens outwards by the way )

The black thing could just be stuck. Try rotating the ring after you've loosened the srew.
By the way, the ring splits in half from the button screw.
