Tripod Rings And Correct Mounting Of Heavy Lenses

Just a quicky really... Canon 70-200 f/2.8 has a tripod ring. Should this ALWAYS be used when using this lens/camera on a tripod? Am I likely to cause stress where the lens connects to the body if I use the tripod mount on my camera?

Yes thes lens needs mounting via the ring, if it was the f4 I would say no need for the ring.

It may cause stress, not going to rule that out because I don't know for sure.

It will however cause your tripid to be far more unstable if you don't.

I'd guess if it comes as standard with the ring then it would be wise to use it. I doubt that it's about to tear the lens mount from the body in reality, but it just seems pointless not to use it.
