Tripod screw problem

I got a Nodal Ninja panoramic head to fit on my Red Snapper tripod. However the Ninja has a hole to recieve a 3/8" inch screw (or a 1/4" screw using an adapter) whereas the Red Snapper tripod has the screw well and truly fixed into the pan-and-tilt head it came with. It won't come out despite my efforts with oil and pliers. So I need a screw like a dowel which is 1/4" or 3/8" wide and must be quite long as the hole in the screw-hole in the tripod is recessed.

and it's the sort of thing I need but it's too short to get into the tripod screw-hole, it fits neatly on the Nodal Ninja. Any ideas where I can get such a thing? My local B&Q doesn't have anything like it in this size.

That should come out of the head, not the tripod. Sounds like it's been cross threaded or something?

The thread is just 3/8" UNC so you can get a bolt and cut the head off if you want to save a few quid.

Outstanding, thanks. £6.99 is a bit of a rip though so might take your advice.

I thought it should come out of the head but it's well and truly in there and I'm just tearing the thread up with the pliers so I've given up.
