Does anyone know of any good tripod straps?

I have an Op/Tech strap at the moment but I like to carry my tripod so that the tripod sits diagonally acrass my back, so I'm looking for a wide strap that would sit comfortably across my chest. I find the straps I've seen (and have) have a short padded "shoulder" part and then a thinner adjusting strap, obviously designed to throw over your shoulder. As I'm a big lad I find that wearing my tripod/strap the way I do the thinner part is very uncomfortable after a while walking.
Any ideas anyone?

Can you improvise with the strap off a sports bag / holdall ?

Thats what I have done. A broad shoulder strap with clips. One clip goes onto the eye under the tripod head, the other (ajustable) end I put round the legs and pull tight! Works a treat! AND free! Plus I have a spare clip to hang something on!!

Are there none made for the job on the market that anyone kows of?

I use an Optech tripod strap and it's no problem to carry the tripod diagonally across my back. I'm pretty big, myself, and have no problems with (dis)comfort. The padded bit goes where it needs to.

Since I have a Manfrotto 055MF3 with a clip point at the bottom of the centre column I use this strap....

But they also have a version that will fasten around the legs. I assume that will work equally well for slinging the tripod....

I have a version that straps around the legs but I find that the padded bit isn't long enough to go from my shoulder and accross my body. This leaves the thin adgusting strap free to annoy the hell out of me by digging into me. Perhaps the clip on type woul be better as it creates a shorter path across the chest area?
I don't have a hook screwed in at the base of my tripod I guess these can be purchased easily? Does anyone know what size thread they are?

Sponge insulation tubes used to lag cold water pipes in lofts etc, 1 metre long at DIY stores, used it on bergan straps in the forces, cut to size, problem solved,
Jim
