Tripods

I've never paid any serious attention (or money) to tripods before as I only use one maybe twice a year.

Up until Monday I always believed that the likes of Manfrotto were way overpriced as there was no way it could be any better than the Velbon I've had for a few years.

**** me, how wrong could I be. I managed to pick up a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod and 804RC2 head for not a lot of pennies.

The difference in quality is simply astounding and the best bit is that I sold my old Velbon to my brother meaning the Manfrotto only cost me a fiver.

:woot:

Congrats on the new bit of kit. Whenever you use a proper bit of kit you think "This is so much easier/better/nicer than when I was trying to wing it".

What you will find now is that there's a similar step up between the likes of the 804RC2 (3-way head. I have one at work with a 190XPROB for video work - it's reasonable enough but a 3-way isn't usually ideal for stills work) with the rubbish manfrotto QR system and an Arca-swiss style QR system ball head from the likes of Markins, Acratech or Kirk.

Your old Velbon was.......an old Velbon. I've got five Manfrotto tripods and monopods and one recently acquired Velbon CF tripod. The Velbon is easily as good as the Manfrottos. It's little used, in excellent condition, and cost me £50 off ebay.
