using MS Security Essentials ..full scan...flagged that it had found, and removed a Trojan

Rogue:Win32/FakeXPA...severe

and

containerfile:C:\Program Files\Wise PC Engineer\Backup\08-01-2011 11-38-17.zip
file:C:\Program Files\Wise PC Engineer\Backup\08-01-2011 11-38-17.zip->
C:/Users/User/AppData/Local/Temp/3oN08Ab4.exe.part->(UPX)

how does it do the action..?
does it enter the infected file and delete JUST the virus code [clever]
does it delete the infected file totally
can i run Wise PC Engineer again..? used to clean Disk and Registry only

I downloaded Wise PC Eng from ZDNet

thanks

I can't see it just removing the code, more likely removed the file holding the virus.

If that's the case, if you try to run the program, it will probably freeze at some point, no harm in trying it though.

Have you scanned all the files on your pc, it may be lurking elsewhere.

i'll try to run Wise PC Cleaner again
if ok
i'll then run MSE tomorrow whilst out - takes about 2hours

yes did a full scan of all files

fakexpa is one of those fake anti-malware programs.

my money is on the pc cleaner backing up the trojan before deleting it as part of the clean-up.

now youve done the virus scan, redo the pc cleaner. as the trojan is no longer there it wont back it up.

Wise PC Cleaner... gah, the name alone puts me right off it.
