Right then, my lovely shiny Wordpress website is giving me no end of problems.

What I'm doing is this;

The frontend of the site is Wordpress, with Autofocus Pro as the theme. The front-end is for demonstrating my abilities and advertising what I do (Edtorial and Commercial/PR) I'm quite happy with what I need to be doing with that.

I'm also using Photoshelter as my backend site. ie. The "Client Site" where my clients can download their images or editorial organisations can license.

I had also wanted to use Photoshelter's Wordpress plugin to integrate some of the best images to my frontend...that's where I'm coming unstuck. I cannot for the life of me get the plugin to work.

I've tried using 2 different browsers, 2 different internet connections, the 2 different methods of installing...nothing.

Has anyone else used this plugin and got it to work...or should I bite the bullet and "compromise" by using the Flickr API and integration that comes packaged with the Autofocus Pro theme?

I know of a couple of friends who have got it to work and it think it's worth the hassle - especially as you're paying for Photoshelter. I'm not sure what theme they were using though, perhaps that's where you're getting issues.

I think from an SEO point of view keeping Photoshelter as integrated as possible will be favourable over Flickr (the only enquiries I get through Flickr are people asking for free pictures).

Can't really help, but I am about to try out a similar thing with zenfolio and WP integration pluggin. Fingers crossed, but if it works easily, will let you know as that might be another option when your photoshelter is due renewal [assuming it does]
