Trousers!

Following my first year of doing an increased amount of handheld photography I have noticed wear and tear on all my trousers and jeans on the knees and also at times I have been left with aches & pains and bumps and bruises in the same area.

I'm looking at getting a decent pair of slacks, with sizeable pockets that are reasonably waterproof and hardwearing with the option of kneepads- does anyone have any suggestions that has been faced with this issue before?...... I know stealth gear do a specific trouser aimed at the photographer but if I'm being honest they only seem to come in green and I don't really want to look like a wannabe soldier/Bill Oddie's stunt double!

I just use my work trousers- Dickies. Loads of pockets and integral kneepads, available from Screwfix.

For plenty of pockets and kneepad facility I'll 2nd 'Dickies' - for light waterproof comfort it would be 'Sprayway'

Look at work trousers from a tool supplier or suchlike. Screwfix are a good bet. They do all sorts, including ones that take kneepads, and they are cheap as well.

Rohan. I've had several pairs for several years and I'm not sure I've ever actually worn through a pair! Several styles with assorted pocket arrangements as well as a few different levels of windproofing and drying times.

Yes a pair of work trousers would give you lots of pockets with the option of knee pads - a few options here

Those work trousers look good and I might treat myself... but I usually just wear cheap jeans and they seem to last for years despite hard wear. £6 for jeans that last for 5 years or more or £50 for work trousers...

Jeans don't have knee pads built in.
Add on ones look daft , unless you're a carpet fitter...

I don't have to worry about getting down and dirty with work trousers, so lying down on the ground to take pics isn't a problem.

Regatta Action Trousers. Excellent fit and very long lasting. They also come fleece-lined for when it gets really cold.

Before becoming disabled I was a carpenter. I started fitting laminate, engineered & wooden flooring for F2G and Other Shops when the craze for this flooring started 12 years or so back. I tried loads of different trousers and the only ones which lasted any period of time was the Snickers Floor Layers trousers, so if you are going down this route pay the extra for Snickers compared to Dickies, Portwest, Dewalt etc.
If my memory serves me right the Snickers are triple stitched, which was useful when get up and down of the floor al the time, as all the other ones would fail in the crotch area.
