having read the threads about a 'sling" type strap. I have used this set up before and loved it. Now on another forum i have access to a guy that makes parachute cord land yards etc that are truly fantastic. I can get him to make me a custom sling. But he does not access to source a good "triangle " or "loop" type screw in fitting. Would like to get as good a quality as possible

Many thanks

Luke

Unless you're going to suspend the para-cord loop from a carabiner or similar, then you may find the loop too narrow as it'll cut in to your shoulder after a while...
You're better off sticking to either the manufacturer's own strap or a bespoke one like the R-Strap or similar copies...

I speak from experience...

If you do go ahead with the para-cord you can buy the fittings from the R starp site as they sell them individually.

I must say I tend to agree with Arkady that it is likely to cut into your shoulder after a while. I use an R-strap and think is is a great way to carry and use the camera.

Why go to the expense of an R strap? nearly every holdhall/sports bag that is sold comes with a detachable shoulder loop. Most of these are never used. Obviously the better the bag then the better the quality. But they are all designed for heaving weight on your shoulder, and the clips just fasten nicely to the loop on the tripod. FREE! Couldn't be better.

He's not asking for a strap for a tripod, he's asking for the threaded-lug that goes into the camera's tripod-socket - al la R-Strap, so he can use a para-cord loop as a camera-strap.

Hey... I see his idea as a good one for others to try. And i have done the same before myself !!

Thanks for the info.. what the guy will do is incorporate a 3 cord section to act as a "support". He is not expensive and i kind of like the "Artisan and Artist " look without the daft price

if it all goes wrong then at least i can say i tried and die with dignity and buy a R-strap to take to heaven !

I got a quick strap from bonds camera on eBay today, it's basically a r strap copy from hong kong, great quality and comes with the tripod screw in lug ready to go. It's going for £29.99 or best offer, I offered £18 and it was accepted, including postage. Baring in mind a r fastener is £12 on it's own it's a bargain.
If you decide a connector on it's own is the way to go then crooked imaging sell the black rapid fasten-r for £12.99 + £1.49 postage, thats the cheapest I found and looks good quality.

I may have misunderstood the question here, but if you're looking for a loop with a 1/4" screw on it - why not get a tripod quick release plate (like the manfrotto one) which has exactly that within it?

Of course, you'd need to find one 2nd hand, unless you're prepared to pay loads...

The black rapid fasten-r is exactly that, a tripod screw thread with a loop on it, £11.99 and designed for the job in hand.
