... a buzz coming from inside the box , didnt boot, at this point i wasnt impressed i needed to be somewhere with a dvd that was in the machine.
knowing i didnt have time i did a quick diagnostic and thought motherboard has died. so i went to press the open button on the dvd drive and nothing.
so its not the motherboard (very releived as i dont need to re-install windows as i cant remember where my discs are and to be honest there is data i needed to get off first!)
At this point everything was pointing to my power supply! I was thinking to my self i should have another one around somewhere - I have 3 half built systems in my attick and looked in 2 at this point forgot the third. I have a basement full of old gear but i know i dod a clear out of some stuff not too long ago. Went down didnt find anything and remembered the 3rd chassis which was currently being used as a book stand and hidden away. run back up 2 flight of stairs and thankfully there was a relatively new psu in it and the case is actually nicer than the original.
Time for a transplant put old system into new case with better power supply. I have had parts both in the attick and the basement so whilst doing the transplant and sorting out cabling etc i had to run back and forth between the attick and the basement.
Its taken me hours to do the trasnplant and most of that is finding parts from here and there. Thanksfully all was fond and i am now typing from the machine with no data loss!
Now the wife always had a go at me for keeping so much stuff. so today i said calmly. this is the reason i keep stuff. I didnt have to spend anything, i got the computer fixed! she hasn't said anything to me since!
