Hi

I was watching country file the other night and there was a guy on there taking photos around dorset etc.
What I noticed is that on the end of the camera he had some sort of devise and he was sliding what i guess was square filters into it...

Is this some sort of specilist equipment and what is the difference between this and the filters which screw onto the lens etc

Also look up Lee Filter systems (which seems to be the choice of pros).

I'm thinking about investing in a system like this. The advantages seem to be the ability to easily stack filters. Quick swapping. And universal fit for any lens (by use of either a different mount or adaptors.

Disadvantage seems to be the cost of the filters (in Lee's case anyway) but this can be offset to a certain extent by the fact that you only need to buy one set of filters.
 
Thanks, they do look good and i would imagine the benfits are how quickly you could change the filters....well you learn something new every day

In my opinion square grads are far superior to screw in grads as you can adjust the position of the grad in the frame, you're not stuck at the centre.

Probably my most used filter, they are great if you shoot landscapes.
