Twin camera setup - simultaneous trigger

Hi,

I need to purchase two matching cameras, but ones that are not vastly expensive. They have to be operated in tandem, so:

  1. Need to be triggered simultaneously/remotely
  2. Can be output to a monitor to view the capture
  3. Flash can be disabled
  4. External powers supply(ies)
  5. Reliable!

Can anyone suggest something that would do the job? I imagine that well-known brand CanFujNikSon would be advisable? Many thanks.

nikon D200 and 2 wireless trigger sets, and just set them both to the same channel? Or make a cable up to trigger both at the same time? Lots and lots of ways of going it... nikon D40's can trigger the same time from a cheap infra red remote control, but don't have a power input other than battery. D70 might do.

I'm curious, what are you trying to do? :D

Thanks, but a tad expensive? A D40 would do the same I think?

However, perhaps I can expand a little:

* A Compact is fine
* 5-6MP is good enough - I won't object to more though
* No need for an extensive specification. Point-and-shoot is fine.
* A Canon Powershot A590 has been suggested

Thanks

I had thought about stereo use as well, but the prime use is for book 'scanning' - I have 400 ledgers to record, dating from 1850, each having about 500 pages (1,000 sides) so I think you can understand the magnitude of my problem!

So I've decided to build one - there are examples on the 'net and it doesn't look too complex. I trained as an instrument technician, so it's within my capability.

aaaah, ok.

hmm... 2 D70's would likely be a good bet, though some scanning rigs do use point and shoot cameras.... iirc there's quite a lot of plans out there. A canon point and shoot with chdk alternative firmware so that it can be tethered to a PC could be a good solution?

Thanks again. I got some more information from a friend regarding Canons - these Powershot cameras are reported to support remote capture:

Pro series - Pro90IS, Pro1
G-series - G1, G2, G3, G5, G6, G7, G9, G10
S-series - S30, S40, S45, S50, S60, S70, S80, S1 IS, S2 IS, S3 IS, S5 IS, SX100 IS, SX110 IS
A-series - A30, A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, A400, A510, A520, A620, A640
Digital IXUS - SD100, SD110, S230, S400, S410, S500

The following Canon PowerShot cameras do not support remote capture:
A series: A410, A420, A430, A450, A460, A470, A480, A490, A495, A530, A540, A550, A560, A570 IS, A580, A590 IS, A610, A630, A650 IS, A700, A710 IS, A720 IS, A1000 IS, A1100 IS, A2000 IS, A2100 IS, A3100 IS
Digital ELPH/IXUS: SD30, SD40, SD400 (Digital IXUS 50), SD430, SD450 (Digital IXUS 55), SD500 (Digital IXUS 700), SD550 (Digital IXUS 750), SD600, SD630, SD700 IS, SD750, SD770 IS, SD780 IS, SD790 IS, SD800 IS, SD850 IS, SD870 IS, SD880 IS, SD890 IS, SD900, SD940 IS, SD950 IS, SD960 IS, SD970 IS, SD980 IS, SD990 IS, SD1000, SD1100 IS, SD1200 IS
SX series: SX200 IS, SX120 IS, SX20 IS, SX10 IS, SX1 IS,
G Series: G11
S Series: S90
Other: TX1, E1, D10

However, the firmware can be hacked for most (all?) PowerShots so going for a cheaper option might be fine - super-fine, high-quality, RAW images are not that important - functionality is! :thumbs:

Any thoughts on Fuji or Sony cameras?

Thanks again.
