Two d700 or stick with d3

Currently I work with a d3 and a d90, but was thinking of possibly selling both and getting two d700s. Ideally I would prefer another d3, or upgrade to d3s, but cannot really afford it.

I would like to have two cameras of similar quality for wedding work and also know I have a back up on other jobs.

The problem is it seems that second hand d700s are almost the same price as a second d3. Is it worth me considering this option?
 
i say stick with D3 and wait till you have money to buy another D3 or D700 then sell the D90.
 
I've been toying with D3 or D700 and feel there is still a definite gulf in prices - 20 per cent at least. Most of the D700s on TP seem to go for £1300-1450, with the D3 bodies going for around £1800, although I did see one a while ago selling for closer to £1600, but I think it'd done a few miles.
 
There's a very strong rumour remerged today on Twitter that Nikon are announcing the D800 and D4 on Jan 6th with availability shortly afterwards.

As it's not that far off you might be better off waiting a week to see what happens.

Whether you're in the market for new or used, it's bound to affect pricing one way or the other.
 
Mark - that is one heck of a rumour. Would love it to be true and the bodies released before Focus2012, when it would be a good opportunity to paw over them. Fingers crossed.... :)
 
there's been 'fairly strong rumours' for months and months that something was just around the corner. I'd love it to be true, but certainly won't be believing anything until i see it!

The thing is that rumour has been around for months. I think I've heard/read it somewhere that they'll be announced every month since last August. I guess the rumours will be right eventually. I'm also prepared to bet that the D4 won't be widely available till after the olympics, with the first examples of that camera going to those photographers covering the event. Would be a bit of a marketing faux paus by Nikon were they to allow every one to buy one, only to not be able to supply them to the people at the olympics

The rumours have been on nikonrumors for months. They have released the 'full spec' of the D800 which they say they are 99% sure of.
I'm after a D700 too but have been holding out for the release of the D800. Once that's out I'm hoping for a bit of a price drop on the latter. I just can't seem to bring myself to buy a second hand digital, which is strange as all my film cameras are second hand.
 
i fancy a D700 as well, if the D800 just a slight improvement etc i think i will just buy a D700 instead.

low light shooting with good iso performance is my key thing and the D700 already capable of doing it without a problem.

Check the nikon rumours site for the suspected spec, without looking again I think it was something like a 36mp sensor. Loads of other improvements too (if the rumour is correct anyway)

(I'll be sticking with the D700 either way, jsut want a price drop :p)

I don't really think the D800 will be 36mp sensor to behonest, but it could happen ......

Maybe the D4x could go up to 36mp when is release. I think the D800 will be around 18 to behonest.
 
Would be nice if the D700 has an extra stop of high ISO, and good HD video recording. Doesn't really need any more megapixels. Doubt I'd be able to afford the cardboard box it comes in so it could have a billion MP and shoot 79fps for all I care :lol:

hehe, yep... guess who got that £1600 one ;) :)

Early Jan seems to be a pretty definite date for a D4 announcement... and word on the street is that D4/D800 is going to be very separate, D4 being news, D800 being studio...
 
i got a feeling the D800 won't be release ........ the D4 yes and the D400 to replace the D300s. Since alot of D300s price is all gone down recently to under 1k.
 
yeah lets wait and see, either way some camera price will go down which means second hand market is good place.

Interest on the 85mm f1.8G that they mention too, was planning to buy the 85mm AF-D but gonna hold back and wait now :)
