following on from my previous thread regarding svchost.exe,
looks as if my problem was hardware related again, this time memory.
I was running Geil 1066 DDR2, with the replacement board, svchost.exe was running at 100% CPU resources and it kept blue screening/locking up, Windows also reported a RAM issue.
Changed the RAM for 2x 1GB OCZ 667 that I had floating around, now it works ok, no crashing svchost.exe not using 100% CPU and the CPU usage staying at 4%

Now here's the kicker, I put the offending DDR2 1066 memory in my parent's Dell Dimension 3100, it works, not sure if the computer is running at it's full speed, but it does seem snappier and it's running Windows XP.
An interesting problem to say the least, but for now I'm going to keep the OCZ memory installed and it will be reloaded at some point, must check backups first before doing this.
