went and shot my 2nd game of ice hockey this weekend - must admit really getting to like this sport

Very nice, couple of good shots here!
?Have you used flash on the third shot? Looks like it...
The pics where players are flying, pic 2 is v. nice timing. Shape about it not being quite sharp. But I bet that's due to the light/shutter speed ?
Good to see more people getting to photograph at their local ice rinks...

Looking forward to more pics !!
 
The 'sportrait' shot 3 was as they were coming off at the interval so quickly switched the flash on for a couple of cheeky quick shots
the bone crunching in shot 2 was very close to me and I kinda like the way the legs are blurred as it gives some feeling of the crunch that happened - but you are right about poor light etc
I was pretty pleased with some of these - I cant believe it when people shoot with F5.6 lenses

would like to shoot at one of the 'better lit' arenas as you seem to get in Finland

Very nice shooting in difficult lighting conditions :)

Out of interest what iso and average shutter speed were you at (exif looks to have been stripped).
 
Used ISO 1600 all night on both cameras I did some at 3200 the week before and did not like what I saw
I shot wide open in AV mode for part of the session and also shot in manual mode at F1.8 and 1/400 shutter speed in Raw which I thought was a good trade off with the variable lighting, the white balance is the biggest problem at that arena Bradford hence shooting raw as I can tweak away till I am happy with what I see

Nice work, love the big hit as for me sadly some folks have no choice on the lens front. :crying:

Got a few I was happy with from up in the clouds the other night including a great glove save in the first shot.

buttkicker, is that the bradford rink?

I live across in hull, never played there but I hear its a lovely rink ;)
 
Love the pics! Ice hockey is a great sport, and its nice to see some pictures from a game that isnt football or rugby!

Oh, and manchester phoenix are our local team. *** they play at a teeny ice rink now. shame, i remember seeing them with 17500 other people at the old nynex arena back in the days when i didnt have a camera of any description! Now THAT would've made from some great pics!
 
i play ice and roller hockey, when I eventually get my camera ill take some roller hockey photos thats something you never see at all..... i cant wait.

just gotta learn how lol..
