A quick Q on the newer UDMA CF cards if I may.

I'm looking for an 8gb card ready for when my new body arrives, all the 8gb cards seem to be branded with the Ultra Direct Memory Access logo UDMA on and so do some of the card readers now, do you NEED to have a UDMA card reader for it to transfer data, or will the older vanilla usb2 card reader I have still work albeit at a reduced speed?

If it's going to take ages to transfer 8gb via the old card reader, can someone recommend a fast card reader...firewire maybe?
 
I'm pretty sure you old card reader will work Brian. Howver, to really get the benefit in speed from UDMA cards I'd say get a card reader which supports UDMA. such as the Sandisk Extreme card reader which I have and highly recommend, or the Lexar equivalent - both do firewire versions.
 
I'm thinking the same thing CT, the speed increase when transferring 8gb via firewire on the mac would appear to be quite substantial.

£50 for a card reader on top of £50 for the card seems a bit :gag: though

I had to get one when I got the 50D - the download times were ridiculous with my old card reader with those huge files - you're going to have the same problem with the 5D2. The Sandisk is blistering fast so I've no regrets although it was more dosh at the time.

Haven't I seen the Sandisk for around 35 quid?
 
If you've seen the firewire reader for 35 pleeeeeeease find the link

the thought of raw files from a 21mp sensor make me shudder :eek:
