to me it looks like there is a lot of noise on it and a bit of a haze or other source of loss of contrast?
 
Noise and contrast apart... it made me smile anyway :)
And maybe that's what it's all about, I like it.

You're right about the noise/haze etc. Heavy crop, in shadows, high ISO, small subject, at the max range of lens etc (can't think of any more excuses)!! :LOL:
 
Look at the size of its feet! :LOL:

Nicely captured! (Especially under those conditions).
