Red Royal Mail street postboxes are an endangered species. RM are starting to replace them with solar powered high tec versions that can accept parcels as well as letters.

Perhaps we can have a project to record as many as possible before they disappear?

There are already prefixes for English regions and the other countries of UK, so I don't think any more are needed

Alas the one opposite our house has been covered with black plastic and cling film since just before Christmas (thanks for the crap timing RM )
Apparently its awaiting to become a smart digi box that accepts parcels up to shoebox size with prepaid online labels printed at home.
Their conversion speed is no more timely than their rubbish mail service these days, so hopefully by Easter.

Anyway, here is one from inside the grounds of Peterborough Cathedral.

Someone needs to tell the Czech owner of Royal Fail that E2R has been dead for 3 1/2 years..... at least they have C3R ciphers on the trucks now...

I'm glad at least one has been updated. There are two near me that have been closed off with black beanbags for at least two months now, causing people to have to travel a distance to find another postbox that is still usable. One village down the road only has one postbo, and it's been unavailable since Christmas.

This is a fascinating and great idea for a thread and I’ll be contributing as much as I can. I currently have only the one suitable pic' that has just been posted.

I need to get this week out of the way first as I’ve sold my property in the West End of London and will be returning to my place in Kent on Friday. I’ll then begin looking for suitable pictures.
