Ultra wide lens for a full frame Nikon

Can anyone suggest an ultra wide, perhaps fish eye, for a full frame nikon. I currently have an 18-35mm but need wider. Preferably something not expensive. Manual focus would be fine for what I do. Are the 14mm Samyangs the most ideal for me?

How do you find the 18-35 Matt? Is it the G or D you have?
 
Have a look at the samyang 14mm f/2.8.

I have the Canon mount and can't praise it enough, especially for the price.

Very, very sharp.
 
Sigma 12 24, Samyang 14, Tamron 14 (probably 2nd hand), Nikkor 14 24. A couple of fisheyes available as well.

Superb lens for what I do. Very sharp and well built I think. Just occasionally I could do with a fish eye type lens.
 
The 14mm 2.8 samyang is great as long as you don't intend using a filter system

Not strictly true - You actually get the filter holder free at present with all new Samyang 14mm's!

It just means you need expensive 100mm filters, but you'd need those for FF ultra wides anyway.
 
The filters are about 200mm square! My mates got one! It's huge
 
Oh christ, the filters are huge. Way bigger than the lee 100s I use.

Need to think this over as I shoot with filters, a lot. Sometimes, and its a sometimes only, I do crave a really wide lens (wider than 21mm). Not wanting to spunk mega bucks for an occasional use item....

A lens that wide needs big filters :)

You can still get them for a reasonable price, it's just the ergonomics of it! The Samyangs are more like cinema filters, but then they do make a lot of lenses in that field!

I'm not so sure that the filter is still available from Samyang. When I was going to buy the lens I found that there were plenty people complaining that Samyang didn't reply to requests for the filter. In the end I bought second hand. The filter holder and grad filter seem quite reasonably priced for such a niche market but I see that the filter should be left on the lens.

Loved my rectilinear Nikon 15mm f/3.5 AI-s on my old D700 - it's up for sale in the classifieds currently, wouldn't part with it if I was still using Nikon bodies! Fantastic chunk of metal and glass, that one :)
 
I had a sigma14mm which was cheap and cheerful ....I think I sold it to Yve on here - I suspect she took more pics with it than I did and of a much higher quality [emoji6]
 
I've got the 16mm fisheye and the 12-24 and I have to say that the 16mm gets used the most out of the two. The reason is mainly down to its size and weight, the 12-24 is a huge beast so I generally only take that out if I've got specific shots in mind, wheras I often pack the fisheye as it's light and tiny. I've also seen great results taken on the samyang too!
