I sold all my underwater gear a while back as I could not dive due to an injury. It now looks like I'll be OK for a trip to the red sea this May. However, having spent the money I got on other gear, I can't afford to buy a new setup at the moment :shake:

The rental place I've used previously - underwatercamerahire - now only rent video gear, so does anyone know of another supplier for a reasonable quality setup.

Also, a bit cheeky but might as well try my luck, if anyone has a setup and would be willing to rent it to me, I'm up for discussion, and dont mind lending out my gear in return if wanted. :thumbs:

I still have my U/W gear, Problem is it's old now !!
I have a Nikon D70 , Ikelite housing, 2 x Nikonos SB105 stobes, dome port for 12-24mm , Macro port for 105mm, ultralight arms etc.
Still works well, was going to get a housing for my D7000, but can't afford it yet!

I see you shoot Canon;sorry, this is Nikon, but if you don't get sorted I'll help if you want.

Nothing wrong with the D70 underwater... the Ike housing is a bit worrying with only two port clips when at the surface but assuming the 8" dome it's great :thumbs:
A good offer too... just watch out for baggage allowance or it could be costly.

In may I'll be in sharm for 2 weeks. It's the family holiday so I usually just do 4 full days diving, preferring to spend time on the straits of tiran or ras-mo. I anticipate most of the stuff being macro unless I get lucky with the hammerheads on the back of Jackson reef.

In November I'll be in hurghada for a week. Never been there before so need to research a bit.

Thanks for the offer of the ike system. I do have canon gear myself but am not bothered about using other systems as I'll be shooting raw files using manual exposure. Whatever I manage to take I'll take as hand luggage for safety and cost!
 
Sharm sadly you're out of luck. There is one shop that according to itself "specialises in underwater photography and videography". All it seels are the masks with a cheap digital camera on top of them and film disposables. The decent ones have gone.

Camerasunderwater in the UK and maybe ocean leisure cameras may rent setups.

Im over there in May but unfortunately need my gear for work then.
 
I think you'll struggle to find underwater housings available for hire. I've thought about it and shied away because of the importance of the seals. The trouble is that, if a customer doesn't treat the seals properly, the housing can fail on the next customer. Not good. And your insurance won't cover you if the failure is due to improper / inadequate maintenance.

Personally I wouldn't hire a DSLR housing from anyone who wasn't an absolute specialist in the field. It's just too risky.
 
Cheers for that. I've previously used underwatercamerahire.com but Terry only does video now. He used to have sea & sea dx2's.

I found the second one too expensive.

As luck would have it I took my regs in for a service at my local dive shop to be confronted with a brand new s100 camera in a fix fisheye housing with inon strobes for hire.

Turned out nice again!!
