Unsure of compact system camera.

First post here so please be gentle with me.
I'm looking at buying a compact system camera and have read lots of reviews(and handled) of cameras,so much so that I'm actually even MORE confused.
Its trying to find the right balance with everything, e.g. Nex 5n has the image quality but lacks the fast focus (and ugly looks IMHO) and lens system doesn't seem that great. Nikon 1 , great lenses, super fast autofocus, which surprisingly (and unbelievably) reverts back to contrast focus in low light. Not to mention the small sensor. Theres lots of other cameras of course but most get varying reviews. I don't really want a bigger DSLR to carry about. Please give me your thoughts and advice. Budget is around £800 mark.

I suppose the first thing that I'd decide is if I want a VF or not. Once that's decided your choice will be whittled down somewhat.

I personally like to have a VF and I'm therefore a bit of a fan of the Panny Gx series although the Nex 7 does look tempting although as you've spotted the lens selection seems limited, the new Fuji X Pro 1 might interest too.

The micro four thirds offerings from Panny and Oly have been around the longest and probably have the largest lens choice and might be worth a look although the Sony offerings may very well have better image quality at higher ISO's.

Wow...now that I like the look of..... X Pro 1. Thanks for the heads-up

I'll be having a close look at the Fuji when it arrives in my part of the world. It does look larger than the micro four thirds offerings and as there's no diopter adjustment I'll have to check to see if I can see and focus with it but a X Pro 1 + 35mm f1.4 looks tempting at the mo.

I currently have a panny GF1+20mm f1.7 that gets taken out when I want a coat pocket camera but my Panny G1+25mm f0.95 manual lens gets more use due to having a VF and with the screen folded away to the camera it's a very film like shooting experience.
