Unsure which to opt for

Im starting to do alot of indoor sports photography as this is where my main inserests lie currently.

Im in the process of upgrading my lenses to faster versions to cope with low light photography and have just bought a Sigma 70-200 f2.8. I also want a shorter focal length lens but am stuck between 3 options:

1. Sigma 24-70 f2.8
2. Tamron 28-75 f2.8
3. Sigma 18-55 f2.8

I want to use this shorter focal length lens to mainly shooting sports like ice hockey, MMA and martial arts events where im going to be relatively close to some, if not all of, the action; ringside for martial arts & MMA stuff and rink side for ice hockey (ill use the 70-200 for further distance stuff)

I currently use a Nikon D90

Has anyone had any experience with any of the lenses above that could offer me some advice before i spend a fair wedge of cash on one of them?

Or do you think i have enough in my bag with the 70-200 f2.8 and my 50mm f1.8 prime?

Thanks guys and gals ;)

I reckon the Sigma will come up a little short for your ice hokey shooting at 50mm (not 55, the 55 is their 2.8-4.5 kit lens). I'd have personally opted for the Sigma 50-150 on a crop as I find 70 pretty restricting at times, but taking the 70-200 as given, I'd pair it with the 24-70, as it gives a natural progression to the Beast if you ever go full frame and put that much money into it, plus it's always nice to have all your lenses looking like they belong together :)

Is the 24-70 designed for full frame? If thats the case would it not be more like 35-105 on my D90?

ice hockey .. 70-200

MMA martial arts probably your 50mm but it depends on the cage size.. for local league MMA in small cage you may need shorter and for full size proper cages I ahve used 85mm and even 135mm prime lens for way over other side.

All in all between them I would go for the sig 24-70

personally for martial arts, mma, boxing and the like I use a f2 35mm prime .. there about 200 quid i think

I was actually thinkiong asbout getting a 35mm prime to go alongside my 50mm f1.8. I also have a Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro which could easily double as another decent low light lens for those longer shots???

Im happy with the 70-200 for hockey etc but im torn between the 24-70 and a 35mm prime for those closer low light shots.....hhmmmmm difficult choice but also im not sure if what i have would be ok for now.

Kipax, if you had these lenses and wanted to shoot indoor and outdoor sports what would you add, if any:

Sigma 70-200 f2.8
Nikkor 50mm f1.8 prime
Sigma 105mm f2.8 (macro)
Sigma 24-135 f2.8-4.8

I would stick to zooms for sports unless you have a second body handy, even then I would probably stick with zooms most of the time.

I have a 24-70 and it is a go to lens. I usually use it on a full frame but it is really nice on a crop sensor too. The 35-105 equilivent is nice and it makes a nice walk around combo with the smaller body.
