Ok, i have the ebay kit (the neewer 500 strobes with the softboxes etc), i also have some off camera flashes and otehr things.
Just recently i bought a lencarta smartflash and a lencarta stand.
I can now compare the ebay lights to the lencarta flash.... the lencarta wins
if nothing else, build quality is better and the stand i got from lencarta is fantastic for the price, ive paid twice as much for stands for my stage lighting rig in the past that werent as good as this.
The strobe itself, well the neewer strobes are still pretty good as far as im concerned, and good value for the money, but, yes the smartflash is better, more consistent and just that bit more quality all round.
I also got lucky and bought a bowens speedring adaptor for 99p on ebay it now means i can attach my big 80x130 softbox to my smartflash (the one i got for £30 new on ebay, and its an ablsolute bargain)..
