Hi All,

New here, looking at selling my EOS 1D Mark 2n and upgrading to 1D Mark 3, alas not the Mark 4....not yet.....

Was just wondering what people's thoughts were as to whether it was worth it? Especially interested if anyone has done this in the past?

Matt

The MkIII has slightly better handling, far better battery life but the biggest improvement is the noise handling. Probably about a stop, maybe a stop and a half better than the MkII. Image quality is a bit subjective, I prefer the output of the MkIII but there are a few on here think the MkII is better

I havs had a 1dmk2, mk2n and now mk3, to me the mk3 is sreets ahead of the 2n in quite a few ways, bigger screen, better menues better at higher iso's more dynamic range,
better battery life and the list goes on.

I am also looking to upgrade to a Mk iii as the price of the Mk iv is somewhat disappointing. However, my wife will inherit my Mk iiN, thus will be looking for a good deal. Would welcome some advice as to what I should be looking for in terms of upgrades on the Mk iii as I am aware there was a problem with the first batch that went on sale.

Thanx all for the replies, one of the reasons i wanted to upgrade is the higher noise and ISO performance with the improved sensor......at the moment having to use the 40D if im going to be in that situation...just leaves me a bit more limited, and will be replacing the 40D with a 5D mark 2 at some point.......but for now, replacing the 2n is best course.

Hadn't thought about battery life, and have now been reminded about the menus and screen. Another big factor is the sensor cleaning, which i never thought did anything on 40D, until i used a camera without it for a few months.....was a state....

I did exactly that update when the mark III came out and I've never regretted it. The menu system is just far more intuitive, 14 bit A/D processing certainly looks smoother to me. The whole camera seems much lighter than the mark IIN although I guess this is pretty much down to the battery. And the shots you get from a single charge are just silly! I had the original and a spare battery at all times the the mark II but I just haven't bothered buying a spare with this one.

Micro adjustment of your lenses is really handy too. In fact there are lots of little reasons that just make the mark II a huge improvement. If it hadn't been for the AF fiasco and the way that Canon handled it initially the mark III would have a stellar reputation. They did eventually get it right and I wouldn't worry about a body that has had all the fixes, they're fine. I'm certainly not planning to get rid of mine in a hurry.

cheers

Thanx Bill, that's pretty much sealed the Mark 2n's fate, as soon as i can sell it, will be upgrading.

Thanks again to those that replied
