upgrade d3100 to a d7000 ?

I've had my d3100 for a little over 18 months now and its been superb. The main reason I got it was that I was unsure if i'd get into photography and so didn't want to go mad..

So, i've now reached the point where I'm hooked but am wondering about upgrading the body.

I take quite a lot of landscapes and car pictures, many of which are shot in low light or darkness. I also go drag racing so FPS might be a consideration.

My question is, what real benefits would I get out of changing the body ? Better IQ ? Better colours ? :shrug:

Sorry for the dumb question but I've not had any experience about from the d3100 that I have now..

The D7000 is great for low light situations, I recently bought one as well. I would recommend it, but depends on your budget as well.

More buttons, better ISO, better AF (when you use 3D tracking you'll see what I mean!), more fps, larger viewfinder with more coverage, user buttons, in body motor...so many upgrades to mention I'm sure others will add.

New bodies are nice...but I'm not sure I could take better photos with a D4, or worse ones with a D3100 for that matter

I do think that once you're into photography, the D90 / D7000 type body is the minimum you should be using solely for the extra dial and buttons which make things a lot faster and is the difference between getting and not getting a shot. After that body, everything else is just a nice to have feature

I did the same upgrade and I'm glad I did. Better camera allround and I'm sure you will enjoy using it.

All of what Phil said in the first part of his reply, plus it sat better on my tripod with my 300mm lens.
