Hi All,
Anybody upgraded from the 100-400 L lens? If so what did you upgrade too and how different did you find your new lens?
I shoot a lot of motorsport at present, so upgrade would be used for that.
Thanks
Rob
You can go 2 ways, the sigma 120-300mm f2.8 and TC's or primes like the 300mm f2.8, 500mm f4 etc
2 friends went with the 120-300mm f2.8, fast auto focus, heavy, one had problems and is still having problems with backfocusing several replacements down the line, the other got rid of it because its low light performance (for him) was hit and miss and replaced it with the 300mm f2.8 (non IS) to go with his 400mm f2.8
On the other hand another friend swears by this lens for motorsport and has never had any problems
I when for the 300mm f2.8 prime and use the 1.4x and 2x TC's for my motorsport and aviation shots. This lens is fantastic, sharp, fast focusing , but heavy, or at least takes some getting use to the extra weight and I feel if your careful with your camera settings in the right conditions works well with both TC's for action photograph. (at least its a cheaper way to achieve 420 and 600mm on a reasonable budget)
But it all depends on your budget to upgrade and whether you want the same focal length and faster glass or an increase in focal length and whether you want to stay with a zoom or happy to go prime but lose that flexibility.
