Upgrade from Eos 300D

Good morning all :)

I currently rock out with a Canon Eos 300D but unfortunately it really is now showing its age :(
Now I know there is technically nothing wrong with this camera but after using plenty of newer cameras recently, it becomes really noticeable when going back to the 300D :p

Unfortunately with my other business taking a battering for set-up costs plus a family to provide for, my budget is as little as physically possible.
From all this, what upgrade would you guys suggest whilst trying to spend as little money as possible?

what is the little budget?

If its £300 then a 1100D will suffice, if its £500 then you have a choice, 550D 600D 650D 60D 50D 40D etc etc

£300 really would be very upper limit. I am more than happy to go into the second hand market mind you :)
 
I sold mine for £50 on here - people use them for expendable things like trap cameras, throwing up in the air, buggering about with trying out circuit mods etc

I'd considered an IR conversion, but it seems like a lot to spend on such a cheap camera. I might DIY it?
 
Does anyone have a spare copy of the 300D driver on disc. It is now not available and after many years of sitting in a box and a number of house moves I can no longer find the original discs. Canon no longer support it and neither do the other companies who sell manuals and discs :( is it the end of the road for my 300D? The memory card also does not fit my Toshiba laptop. Cheers JJ
 
Card reader - about 10 quid in Tesco - problem solved.
 
The 300D was the first DSLR i ever owned as i am sure it was for many. Say what you will about canon they started the sub £1000 DSLR revolution.

Me too and to this day some of my favourite pictures were taken with it.

I've had another thought...

How about a CSC and manual primes?

You could get something like a Panasonic G1/2 for less than £100 and a couple of primes such as 28mm f2.8 (£20-30) and 50mm f1.8 (£15) add an adapter (£10) and you've got an interesting little system for easily less than £150 and you can add lenses such as a macro as funds allow.

Get the firmware hack via http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/digital_rebel_firmware_hack.html

I used it on mine when I had one. Worked a treat.
 
I can fully recommend a 40D. I had one for a couple years and only sold it because I was so blown away by full frame which suited my style of photography better.

You should be able to pick up a tidy one for around £250 these days. Or if you'd like video, you can go down the 550D route which is do-able for a bit less than £300.
 
I know where there's a mint 40d with under 2000 actuations for only £250 delivered (assuming it's not been sold already). PM if interested.
