upgrade issue - DLSR video?

hi all,

I was considering an upgrade to a D300, however with the new D300s coming out I am umming and arring over getting that due to the HD video and the quieter shutter release mode. I am interested in event/wedding and wildlife photography so I think the added options would be of benefit.

Anyone tried the D300s and used the new options? Anyone used the movie options on a DSLR (the D700 has this ability doesn't it?)

Do you think its worth the extra £400-500?
 
The only other Nikon DSLR's to have this feature are the D90 and the D5000.

The quiet shutter release function isnt going to be silent, all it does is when you press the shutter the mirror stays up until you fully release the shutter button, so when you take a shot, if you only half release the button then the mirror will stay up, this will make it slightly quieter as the shutter and the mirror arent both closing at once but the mirror will still have to come down at some point.
 
I have only used the movie function on my D90 in a very limited way.

Once just for a quick video of each of the kids at sports day to show the OH.

No AF on the D90 does limit it quite a bit.

I do use my camera for work, so I did use it the other day to video a computer room, so I could refer back to it later on.

nope - the D700- hasn't got video mode, and if your going to buy the d300s your better off spending another £200 & getting the d700

this is true - but if you were going down the route suggested by the OP then that would be no bad investment

I have looked at the D700 with it being full frame and only £200 more, plus, I currently on have the kit lens for the D60 and an old 50mm 1.8.

Although, aren't you better with the crop sensors for wildlife? I am only just learning about this so sorry if its totally wrong :)
