Upgrade kit lens

Would the nikon 16-85 be a worthwhile improvement to the standard lens? Could people who have used this lens (preferably with a D90) comment please?

Well I have one on my D300 most of the time,can't really compare with the kit lens as I never had one on the D300 but have to say I'm very happy with it.
