Upgrade Time, EOS 60D or 600D

I think the time has come to upgrade my Olympus E-520, i have narrowed it down to either the Canon EOS 60D or 600D

Now i have read and watched reviews of the 2 cameras and as far as i can tell they should both be producing near on the same quality photos being that thay have the same sensor etc

The main differences being the 60D has better autofocusing (9 cross type points), faster FPS and a better battery

Now i will be looking at second hand cameras, and 600D's seem to be going for around the £400+ mark on ebay with a kit lens, and the 60D at around £600+, again with a kit lens

So my question is, is the 60D worth the extra £200, or are the 600D's really a bargain now that the 650D has been relesed

As an aside...Canon's own ebay store has refurbs for around those prices (£440 for the 600D - £635 for the 60D)

As for choice, you might also want to take into account how it fits in your hands.
I used to have a 400D and I remember handling a 40D when it first appeared and I was completely sold on it straight-away. It all seemed a better fit for my hands, well weighted, etc.

Interesting, i'll look into that, and i'll check out the eBay store as well

Still need to work out if the 60D is worth the extra money though as on paper they are very very similar

The 60D is also a bigger body - I'd suggest you try them out to see if you like / dislike the feel of one of them as this could be the deciding factor - one of my mates had a 450D and really liked it, but then upgraded to the 60D and preferred the size of the 60D body. He felt that and the extra you got from the 60D was well worth the extra cost.

check out the grey suppliers for new ones panamoz have the 60d at £540 - 5% discount if you pay by BT and the 600d at £438 -5% if you pay by BT
 
I'll have a trip to my local shop at the weekend and see if i can handle them both
 
I'd also have a look at the 650D as well. Not sure what your budget is, but the 650D is about on a par with the 60D in features and even goes beyond the 60D level for some.

I personally prefer the ergonomics of the 60D, rear dial and top screen are essential for me, but the 650D is really good and easy to use.
 
I discounted the 650D because as far as i could tell the main difference with that was the HD video capability being much better, but as that is something i am not interested in, i figure i could get a 600D a fair bit cheaper and spend the money saved on glass

Budget wise, ideally under £500, hence looking at 2nd hand gear on eBay, might take some time/luck to get one at that price, if not then i will probably go for the 600D unless there really is £200 worth extra on a 60D

Just had a look on Panamoz, they do the 600D with the kit lens and a 50mm f/1.8 for £489.00

And since i love my 50mm on my Olympus it's probably one of the lenses i would buy anyway, could be onto a winner here

Also, what do you think my Olympus E-520 would be worth, comes with kit lens and two manual focus 50mm and 35mm prime lenses, spare battery and a few filters
 
Is there any reason you're not considering Nikon? I only ask as I've got a 60D and as I was recommending it to my mate, I noticed that the D5100 and D7000 are better cameras.

If like me you've got Canon lenses, then it's a moot point though.

Erm, not true, digitalrev are based in Hong Kong, so anything you buy from them is a grey import.

not as cheap on any item I have checked bar my sigma 30mm f 1.4
and then with the 5% bt panamoz was slightly cheaper but very little in it on that one
and DR being in Hong Kong is definitely at leas 50 shades of grey :lol:
 
Digital Rev give you a UK invoice though so you're okay for warranty with them I believe. They are based in Hong Kong but have offices in the UK for this purpose I think. Panamoz however, I'm told (not really looked into this) are actually based in the UK (is it Scotland?)

The warranty they offer is the same as any other grey importer. On their T&Cs they clearly state the warranty is with them, meaning any repairs have to be arranged and sorted by DR, rather than directly with the manufacturer. Panamoz will be exactly the same. Of course, this applies to items which don't come with an international/worldwide warranty from the manufacturer, which is usually camera bodies.

"9. Warranties

Unless in the case where the goods come with their own international or worldwide warranty or stated clearly otherwise, all goods sold by DigitalRev Limited on the website carry a 12 Month DigitalRev Warranty.

If the buyer wishes to make a claim under this warranty, the buyer shall give written notice to DigitalRev within 30 days of the discovery of the defect and give DigitalRev reasonable opportunity to inspect the goods in question. "

Main reason is i am liking the idea of the flip out screen as i do like doing low angle shots and the screen would make life much easier

Not sure if any of the Nikons have these type of flip out screens
