I'm wanting to upgrade from my current 10D to a 40D come next payday. The main reasons being the better performance at higher ISO, better screen for reviewing shots, better performance in general.

I was looking at the 450d initially but after playing with one in the shop, and using the 10D for a while now, the feel and weight of a plastic bodied camera just doesn't feel right.

Any other thoughts/suggestions? (not Nikon ;))

hi
ive had a 40d from new love it to bits so much so got a second body as a back up same as you looked at 450 no top plate seemed to light (not a bad performer though) but just didnt feel right i would recommend a 40d you wont be disapointed;)

Can't go wrong with a good s/h 40D. Wish I'd kept mine, however maybe you should look at the 50D also as it isn't a whole lot dearer s/h

If you do sports, birds in flight etc you might want to also consider a 1dmkii around 550 to 600 2nd hand. AF meant to be great.

I have heard from quite a few people not to bother with the 50D as they arn't really any better than the 40D, they were just Pixel chasing...

Well someone with a 50D may be able to answer that, the advice I've read is if you already have a 40D don't bother however if your upgrading from earlier models then the 50D is better.

Anyone out there who has upgraded to a 50D from a 40D/owned both?

I'm reading up on the 1Dmkii now also ;)

I've owned a 40D and now a 50D.
The micro adjuster, higher ISO and extra few MP do make a difference for me.
The thing about the MP's is that it allows me crop tighter.
You can't wrong with a 40D but if you can stretch to a new xxD body, it might be worth waiting to see what the 60D is like.

go for the 40D

That's not a good enough reply to help the OP.
Be constructive, tell him why you think he should opt for a 40D.
