I'm thinking of uprgading from my fuji to an olympus 510 with the 2 kit lenses, I enjoy landscape photography Is it worthwhile upgrading yet or should I keep learning with my current camera for now ??

thanks Jack

What do you feel is holding you back with your current camera?

Although if you want to get more serious about photography a DSLR is certainly the way to go.

I find my current camera quite capable for my skill level but would like to do longer exposures and also to shoot in raw

all i can say is olympus has a 2xcrop factor so the focal length of the lens will be twice as much which could make it awkward for landscapes.

What focal lenth of lens would you recomend for landscapes ?

Long exposures and raw are a good enough reason to switch to a DSLR (although I don't know any thing about the olympus cameras, so can't help with them)

why the olympus?

fair enough. i don't know much about olymus to comment, but think about the future with it, what limitations it might have say 12, 24, 36 months down the line

I have olympus E3, upgraded from 410 6 months ago, check what kit lens it as, the 17.5 - 45 is not wide enougth.

Still haven't made my mind up on this yet also thinking about a nikon D40x but this is just body only at 199 lol I'm so indecisive

i had a nikon d40, cracking camera but with the limited choice in lenses without the auto focus motor in the body i stepped up to the sony a300 (see link in sig), but now thinking of something different again

personally I wouldn't go for the Olympus...my brother has had the e1 and e500 and was very disappointed with the quality.

Out of the two I'd go with the nikon (god did I just say that ? :) )
A friend borrowed a E500 this weekend, whilst a bit behind the 510 is was hard work and the menus were more complicated than my 450D. We both found my 450D to be easier straight away. We also found that the thumbwheel kept getting knocked whilst shooting..

I presume the E510 is a x2 crop as well ? this goes two ways, you can get a 70-300 lens for about £330, giving you the 35mm equiv of 600mm, but you need a very wide lens at the other end, even that kit lens is going to be 37mm equiv!

I think that the Olympus cameras are highly underrated. I know a couple of guys who use Oly cameras and their results are excellent, the photographer is more important than the camera. I'm a Canon user but keep bing tempted to an Oly (possibly the E420) as a small walkabout camera. It wouldn't be much bigger than my G9 but the IQ at higher ISOs would be a big step up.
