Upgrading but can't decide between 60d and 600d help

I currently have the 450d and although it's a great camera I originally wanted the 550d but couldn't get the difference so ended up with this.

Now I have just sold both my iPhones and now have £800 to get a new camera but can't decide between the 600d and 60d they are both more or less the same in specs wise but the weight of the 60d puts me off a little as I'm female and only quite small and the weight of the camera combined with the 100-400 will It be a problem

My reasons for the 60d is it's more of a pro camera where as the 600d is entry level and I'm going to be doing a photography course this year so wanted something a little more professional but can't decide can any one help
 
If the only thing that is putting you off the 60D is the weight then I wouldn't worry about it. The heavier camera will balance the big lens better so you might be pleasantly surprised at how the combo handles. Do some exercises to build up your core strength, and curls with weights (4pt milk containers filled with water!) to improve your arm strength. Spoken as a weedy middle-aged female that loves her D300, which is 150g heavier than the 60D.

It looks as if you are planning to keep the 450D so you will still be able to travel light when you want. I don't know the Canon range but check the specs between the 600D and the 60D carefully - often it is just the 'little' details that make all the difference in handling and convenience. Try them out in the shop to compare.

Also get a monopod - cheaper and easier to take around than a tripod and makes a big difference. There are good tips on how to use one here.
 
I've just weighed my 450d with grip and it's 830g and the 60d is 700ish so should be ok I'm going to jessops to try them both out

Save another £200 and get a 7D from Kerso ;)
 
The 60D and 600D have some differences:

* Much bigger viewfinder in the 60D
* Extra control wheel on the 60D
* Top LCD on the 60D
* Faster fps rate and can take more photos in a row on the 60D
* More advanced AF system on the 60D
* 60D is built much better
* Interchangable focus screens on the 60D

But...the 600D WILL feel lighter, even though it seems insignificant on paper. Good luck trying them both out, it's the right thing to do :)
 
Definitely the 60D, the extra control dial alone is worth it and the AF is a nice bonus. You'll get used to the weight in no time and as said above, it only helps to have a bit of weight on the camera end with longer lenses.

There is a world of difference between the 600D and 60D, but it can't be appreciated from a tech spec sheet.

That said, there's always the 5D classic.. ;)
 
Very wise decision going to try before you buy at Jessops for the simple reason that weight isn't the only consideration. If your hands are petite that grip on the 60d and being able to smoothly operate the dial at the back of the camera while still accessing the rotary wheel and shutter release at the same time can be problematic. You will I'm sure enjoy either as they are quite a step up from your 450D. Have Fun.
 
Almost certainly the best choice and a much better upgrade from the 450D, more robust and a more advanced tool than the 600d and yes it most certainly does feel much better and once you get used to the rear control dial and the top screen you will realise it is a much better system especially if you have to work quick. I'm jealous now.:razz:

Sorry to hear about your pet Lou.
I am sure you will love the 60D I did the same as you went from 450D to the 60D last October, I have small hands and I find it comfotable to use.
 
id say you definately made the right choice. i went from a 400d to a 7d. and im loving it!! im sure you will to!
 
In manual mode, use the big wheel on the back. Try the "Unlock" button below it if it's not working.

If you are in Av mode, just use the forefinger wheel.
 
There should be a thing in the box labeled "Manual" give that a try. :naughty: Persevere and it will become second nature, it still thows me sometimes if I have been using 500D for a few days then change to my 50D (and vice versa) but the confusion does diminish with time. :thumbs:
