Upgrading D7K to D700

Right...the devil on my shoulder is constantly whining on for me to upgrade to a D700. I'm not entirely sure why or which way to go about it.

D7000 body - 4000 clicks
Nikon grip
2 extra genuine batteries
2 extra genuine chargers
Genuine leather case

Nikkor 35mm 1.8 DX
Tokina 11-16 2.8 DX
Nikkor 16-85 DX

Nikkor 70-300 II
Nikkor 105 Micro
Nikkor 300 F/4

My main interests are wildlife, macro and landscape/architecture.

So...what do I do? Bite the bullet and just buy a D700 body keeping my D7000 (and DX stuff). Just buying a basic walkabout lens for FX. Or do I flog my D7000 and have to replace both walk around (16-85) and landscape (11-16) and any portrait stuff (35mm) straight away and all in one go.

Sorry for the ramble. Just using this as my place to plan!

If you can afford to deep the d7000 buy a d700 and get a decent lens like a Nikon 24-120 both reasonable second hand.

The non OEM grips are reputed to be quite good Stew and these can be had new for about £40 I believe (Nikon well over £150).

There are a multitude of lenses to choose from and you can pay anything from a couple of hundred or so second hand up to serious money...all depends where you are heading. :thumbs:
 
The D700 a great camera,after running a DX & FX for a while,have now decided to go full FX.

The big reason is you find yourself almost running two system,your DX lens will work on FX cameras,but at a much reduce mp count.
Your FX lens will work fine on a DX camera,but at a 1x5 factor,so your never sure which lens to take out,if say you need to 2 cameras.

I guess I need to work out how much I'd get for my DX specific stuff. Then what I'd need to buy to replace the lenses. I have about £1500 to play with at the moment.

So. I'd be losing from 16mm to 128mm ish if I sold the D7K and lenses.

Not sure how close my prices are, but I can raise another £1600 ish.

Giving me £3k for body and filling those gaps in my lenses. Hmmmm

My first thought was 'why ?'.

I have a D700 and a D7000, and no way are the D7k images inferior to the D700. I tend to use the D700 for landscape and architecture, and the D7k for BIF, zoos and macro; though there is some overlap.

With your lenses, you've got it all covered already. Trading in the DX lenses for FX is gonna cost you; and the FX lenses will be more expensive anyway.

Fight the syndrome, you don't need this acquisition !

Well Stew it looks like you are not going to be swayed and if a D700 purchase is looming then how about;

D700 - £1100 ish
Nikon 16-35 f4 - £700 ish
Old Nikon 35-70 f2.8 - £250 ish
Nikon 70-200 VR I - £900 ish

With your 300 f4 AF-S and TC that's all the bases covered for the type of photography you enjoy other than a specific macro lens. Like the one you just sold :-)
 
In fact I forgot you have the 105 so happy days....
