Right, i've wanted to upgrade for a while, just because my 400d is getting oldish (12months old), and i need more FPS, and higher ISO. Also, i want a lesser crop sensor to make good the glass i have.

I was thinking of buying a new body for when i graduate, sort of a gift to me, from me.

Now, this is where i thought it got interesting.

For the price of a good 40d, 2nd hand with a proper canon grip, it's only a couple of hundred cheaper than getting an average condition 1dMK2.

Now, i like taking landscape shots, and i'm just starting to take a lot of MTB shots, so i need a decent camera that's semi waterproof for those days it gets a bit wet, which is what the 1d and the 40d has in common, although the 1d is more watertight than the 40d. But i'm afraid that the camera is more aimed towards the action side of life, and not the stills.

So what would you do in my position. Ignore the money front, as i'm able to afford either, it's just justifying the 1d that's harder than the 40d.

So what would you get, and why?

Thanks.

well if you kept the 400 as a second body I would go for the 1d, but its a lump to lug about all the time, I really wanted one in for sale but had to behave myself as its impractical for this very reason.

a 1d is a 1.3x crop (depends which one ya get, could be ff) so would be wider for your landscapes, it will definately do them better than a 400 though, just a different quality band :D

might be worth posting your glass to help people advise you

Well, i have a 24-70F2.8 and a 70-200F4, the only EFs that i have is the 10-22, but that could get swapped with a 12-24. Or i could do a little bit of work on the 10-22 to make it 1.3x compatable ;)

Or just keep the 400D with the 10-22? Granted, the 12-24 will look slightly wider on the 1D, but would you want anything wider that the 10mm on the crop? That would be seriously wide and for landscapes, possibly too wide!
