Hey guys, Im James and I'm new here!

Im a photography student and im looking to upgrade my gear before i go to uni so i can make some money by photographing events. (Wont be taking photography at uni :/) I currently own a Nikon D40 and a D3100 with the kit lens and a Sigma 50-200 (also use a Nissin Speedlight). Ive got around £1200 to spend on a new camera that will work well in low light (will be shooting club nights and gigs). My main issue is if i should go for a DX Crop or FX body.

Im currently looking at going down the body only route as i want to stay away from kit lenses for good so ive currently got the D7100 or second hand D600 on the table.

What would you guys recommend? Bear in mind that i will also be needing a lens to put on it that will cover most things. (Ive been looking at the Nikon 50mm F1.4 AF-D).

Here is a link to my photoblog so you guys can see my style of shooting and how ive been using the D40.

What lenses have you got to use with a D7100 or D600? To get the best out of them you will need some good glass. Have you thought about a D7000? A great camera and can be got for about half of your budget, it would nearly leave enough for a nikon 17-55 f2.8 or a couple of lenses if you go down the tamron/sigma root. I've seen a couple of D600 go on here but they were around £1000-1100, it wouldn't leave much for a lens.
