Upgrading L's to Mark II

HI all,

I'm thinking of upgrading either my 24-70L or my 70-200 2.8IS to the newer versions but I can only afford to do one of them at this time. My 24-70 probably gets the most use so it would seem logical to do that, but then i hear such good things about the 70-200mk2 that i'm tempted to do that instead.

Any views from owners of the Mk2's?? Thanks!
 
I thought my 70-200 mkI was excellent but the mkII is a clear step up wide open, especially at the long end. The IS is noticeably better too.

I've no experience of the 24-70mkII. I thought my mkI was fine but a late copy 24-105 was clearly sharper. So I guess there is room for improvement in the 24-70 though I don't know if the mkII does it.
 
Thanks, as you say the new 70-200 does appear to quite a significant imrovement and I'm very tempted!

Anyone got the 24-70mk2 and a view on that???

Hi I think it's Camera Store TV on YouTube, they've done a decent review comparing the two and the new Tamron. It does seem to have marginal improvements, not sure it's worth the extra outlay, then again I've not used one myself. Check out the review and see what you think.

Exactly the same here, I kept my MkI for about 5 months before being able to afford the upgrade to the MkII and it was well worth the wait and the cash.

As for the 24-70 I can't help you, when I wanted a 24-70 I couldn't afford the Canon L (either version) so I ended up getting a Sigma f2.8 USM and for me that is surprisingly good. I wont be getting a Canon MkI at all as the Sigma will do for me, but if I had the spare cash I'd be tempted to get the Canon MkII.
 
Well, there is a huge amount of variation between all 24-70 I lenses. Search through lenses for rental blog http://www.lensrentals.com/blog for graphs.

In theory some of mk1s can be very close to some of mk2s, but there can be equally some very dramatic differences (it's a bloody lottery!). Overall, mk2 should be better. My 2nd mk1 seems to be very acceptable even wide open across the whole zoom range after recalibration by Canon
 
Thanks all. I've seen the graphs - I guess i'm looking for real world experience in upgrading and was it really worth it. I'm currently seeing a definate yes! on the 70-200 and a 'it depends on your copy of the mk1' for the 24-70.... any more views?
