Upgrading my second body, but to what?!

I have a 5D2 as my main camera, which I am very attached to. My backup is a 40D which I don't feel quite right with now. I did a friends wedding on the weekend and had both cameras in operation, albeit with different lenses. The 40D did the job but 'differently'! Can't put my finger on that one!

So I have decided to upgrade, the choice for what I do is either another 5D2 or maybe a 1D3. The 5D2 appeals because I will have 2 identical bodies and no worries about unfamilarity issues when swopping from one body to another.
The downside is that I do a bit of sports/event work where the better AF of the 1D maybe a real bonus.

When I look back at the last 2 years probably 80% of my shots are 'people stuff' where the 5D2 is ideal. I also hope to start doing some studio work, if only for the challenge!

Any thoughts, experiences or recommendations that don't invole Nikon.

Cheers,

Dunc

I'd say something in the 1D range in that case then you've got all your bases covered.

Sounds like a 1D model of some description would be ideal to compliment your 5D Mark II.

Even the 1D Mark II knocks spots off the 40D and 5D Mark II for AF on action.

1D can be nice for high fps shooting. If you need it, get one; mkIII is obviously more advanced than mk2.

If fps is not an issue, get 1Ds mk2. The noise levels are comparable with 1d3, but the colour reproduction and sharpness seems somewhat better. 1d3 has amazing AF, but 1Ds2 is a very close second. Overall, I personally somewhat prefer the Ds version for what I do. 1D is optimized for high speed, Ds - IQ.

5d2, I found a 5d2 and 1d3 to not sit well together, but that might just have been me as I got confuddled between the control layouts.

if you can afford it 5d2 if not 5d classic but maybe drop the cash on some glass
