I'm thinking of upgrading my old Nikon D70 to the D90. I would be interested to hear the experiences of folks on the forum who have followed the same upgrade path.

What benefits and downsides have you discovered along the way?

Thanks.

I went from a D40 to a D90, so far so good.

the benefits were:....
12.1mp over 6mp for larger prints
autofocus motor built into the body so i can use AF lenses
Exposure bracketing, the D40 doesn't have this
Top Status LCD for quick setting adjustment without waking up the rear LCD
DoF preview button
Flash commander mode
more AF points / grid viewfinder display
can use the MB-D80 battery grip
Video function (used sometimes but not essential on a DSLR imho)

downsides.....
not weather sealed (nether was the D40)
heavier weight (can be a plus point though when handholding shots)

:)

D70 to D90 here very happy with my mine, bought it when it was released. I keep looking at a D700 no idea why though.:)

That and the D70 has a higher flash sync speed (1/500 v 1/250) other than that the D90 beats it in every respect.

As Graham says, D90 (nearly) all the way. Low light ability knocks the D70 into a cocked hat.

But the D90 at high ISO is good enough, I printed lightly cropped jpg at A4 last night and had to check the exif before I realised it was taken at ISO1400! (auto ISO set)

The D90 is impressive in every respect..........

Hi guys,

Thanks for your feedback. What about difference in image quality between the two cameras? Does the 12mp make that make much difference? Also is there much of a leanring curve in upgrading or is it pretty similar to the D70?

Are there any good dedicated D90 sites or forums you would recommend?

Thanks.
