when uploading pictures to photobucket, flicker etc do you upload full size images,ie large file sizes or do you scale down the file size before uploading? Does it matter? and while i`m asking is one picture hosting site better than another, which should i use?

I have used both sites and prefer Flickr by a mile, it just seems more user friendly than photobucket. As for sizes, i always upload the full size photo as i also use it as a backup source in case any HDD's fail (you can download the original full size picture again). The only advantage of scaling down photos IMO is the fact that they will take less time to upload.

thanks for the comments, i like the idea of it being a virtual back up. I will give flickr a try as well.

Some sites have a limit on the size of image that they allow you to upload, and will resize anything that exceeds that limit. Sometimes that resizing doesn't do much for the quality of the resulting image.

For sites like Flickr that allow you to upload full size images, and will display reduced sizes, always remember that the full sized image is available to anyone who might want to pinch your image for good quality prints or other nefarious purposes. That's one of the reasons I limit my uploaded images to a maximum of 750 or 800 pixels on the longest side.
