urgent advice requiered..

Dont see how a TC can be out of focus, no moving parts, only modifies the focal lentgh of the adapted lens.

Dave.

i dont know how it would become out of focus, im at a loss:thinking:

i thinks he's just bought a 70-200mm f2.8, the same as the pictures taken with it on the link.??

ive just trawled through google and cant find an answer to it being out of focus??

felling really bad though as it worked perfect last week, is there anything that could go wrong with them as there's no moving parts??

i dont know him,
but he's a forum regular with experience and lots of nice kit,
i think he uses a 7d, do these have micro adjustment? would/could this be it?

Thirty odd years ago my dad sold a car to a guy who said it was for his son.
Twenty four hours later he rang back to say his son didn't want it and would dad take it back. Dad rang me for advice and I said 'no way!". in twenty four hours they could have swapped the engines over you would be hard pushed to prove it.

2X converters don't give terrifically good IQ. The guy may not have realized this and now is not so keen on the deal, but..

caveat emptor.

i think he sold one not so long ago on here so i would imagen that he knows about the quality from them etc.

although looking at dave's/STARRIDERS pics from when i met him i would say its a bloody good copy

thing is i feel really bad and dont want to doubt the fella that bought it as its rude. but cant see as to why its 'out of focus'?

Does 'out of focus' here refer to something that someone else might call poor IQ?

I have a 300 lens... I had to recalibrate it to use it with the x2 TC and i get excellent results. Not so when I first put it on.... I would suggest its not the TC thats out

re-reading it, it said 'out of focus, looks soft not sharp like the pics from the link'

being the same lens could IQ differ from one lens to the other by using a T.C?

how would you go about recalibrating a lens?

if hes got a 7d, he will have an instruction manual, it explains calibration inthere.

is this micro adjustment?

ifso the i done it with a 50mm f1.4, made all the difference on my 50d.

I was using the same T/C last week on my 70-200 2.8is,and was working well..here is a sample..think i focussed on the beer..

nothing wrong with that pic..
its allllll confusing, was trying to give up smoking too, think i'll give in and have a fag!!

ive asked for a picture to compare it with.. i think the micro adjustment might be off, but its been enhanced and made more noticeable due to the 2x conversion??

I suspect user error. Folks often struggle to get sharp pics out of long lenses when they're not used to them. Focus is more sensitive, camera shake much more prominent, two stops of light lost etc. Saying it's out of focus could be just his way of saying it's not what he hoped and has changed his mind.

One way around that might be to put it down to experience and refund him. Get the TC back, check it's as it left you and that the glass hasn't been knocked sideways somewhere along the line, in which case maybe a postal claim. Then refund less postage. It's just less grief at the end of the day.

You should be able to resell it again without any trouble?

its micro adjust, yes

cheers guys, i have no quarms about giving a refund, but was curious as to why it would be out of focus, i know from when dave used it it was spot on, hopefully a micro adjustment will sort it, if not then reund then re-sell. its just that i done a trade plus cash but im really happy with my end of the trade and dont want to part with it..lol

oh well, such as life!!
