Sorry guys I have posted something similar a few days ago but I have been given new info today that I would like an opinion on.

The guy in my local camera shop was comparing the Sony Alpha 500 to the Nikon d90 saying that if they were of similar price he would go for the Sony all day long?

I felt them and the Nikon felt strong and sturdy, but the Sony felt light and plastic?

My mind was all made up on the d90 but now im thinking twice?

Whats the opinion on here?

Thanks.

it depends on what you want to shoot really. the sony a500 is more of an advance amatuer and the d90 is a mid range so there completely different leagues. if it was me i would probably go for the d90 if as you say "felt strong and sturdy" then get it, also never listen to what sales people tell you, their there to do one thing...sell. they will do anything to get that money out from your hand.

If its any help i've just bought a D90 and love it , thing is I know nothing about Sony so its hardly a balanced review !!!

oh and forgot to mention that sony have big cashback offers so if you choose sony then nows the time to do it, and if you do go sony i would highly recommend getting the 30mm f2.8 macro and 50mm f1.8 in your purchase because these are two brilliant primes.

I was in a similar position a little while ago. I had an A200 but wanted to upgrade, didn't like the feel of the A500 so I tried others. Narrowed it down to the Nikon D90 and the Canon 50D. I preferred the feel of the 50D so I sold my Sony kit and got the 50D. Go with what feels right for you, not what someone else likes - you're the one that's going to be using it, not them.
If you prefer the Nikon for whatever reason, that's the one to go for.

He lied.

I would go for D90. Sony A500 really feels like cheap plastic.
