Help please, I've just found out I need to get a couple of images emailed out this evening that are suitable for magazine print, that's all the info I have.
My normal workflow is to provide a cd, so haven't got a clue about this :bang:

Obviously files need to be small enough to email but good enough for print.
Current file size is around 27MB so need to reduce to 1MB max.

Do I reduce actual image size or resolution, or something completely different??

Thanks in advance

resolution is usually 300DPI then resized to 1MB in Photoshop, for wiring live anyway. I would assume it will be similar for what you need

You need to reduce the image to maybe 1800 PIXELS longest side - this would allow them to print up to 9 inches wide @ 200dpi. That will give you a file size around 2 meg. Resolution doesn't matter - it's pixels that matter. You should ask what size they need.

Most will accept jpeg or tiff but jpeg files will be a lot smaller. Email is not good for sending large files. FTP or one of the free file dump sites is ok. I upload a page of thumbnails and they can click a thumb to download a full size high res file. Works well as they can see all the images quickly and just download large files for the pictures they want.

Ask them!

I had to provide some images at short notice last week for a magazine and they required the full size files as TIFFs so I signed up for a free trial of
http://www.yousendit.com/

Worked a treat and dead easy even for a computer numpty like me

I'm having the same issue, trying to email some hi-res images to a mate, I've saved them as Jpg as smaller than TIFF but still coming in at 21Mb :bang:

I don't have an ftp server running yet so struggling, anything else can be done ?

Another option is to use something like putfile/media share etc. then just email them the link and they can download the image from there.

I took AWP's advice (only one I really understood), looked good enough to me and I've not heard back so assume all is ok :)

If I end up doing more work for these people I might do some sort of ftp thing, but not sure my client is happy with getting involved in that, I think he likes the simplicity of email.

If you have Photoshop - have a look at the web gallery - under file > automate - it very quickly produces a page of thumbs - so the client can see allthe pics instantly - then they click to download the full size pic. You need web space and the ability to upload the pages/images that PS produces.

Glad it worked out.
