Urgent help...What netbook/laptop to get?

I urgently need to get a portable computer. I don't mind if it's a notebook or a laptop but it needs to be able to run Elements 9 as a minimum although it will be mostly for web browsing and e-mail. I want to be able to easily transport it and I cannot afford a MAC of any kind!! Not sure of my true budget but under £600 would be a bonus.

Any ideas???
 
Define easily transportable. Are you more interested in weight being low over processing power? The small and easily portable netbooks are seriously underpowered for anything photo related, but will run the web nicely. If you want power, and a "proper" laptop, I'd be looking at an i3 or i5 based one with 4G memory and running Win 7 64bit.

If you want an idea of how powerful the processor in the computer is, find out whiuch exact processor (i.e. i3 370M for example) it is and then look here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

You will be able to get a laptop for your spec closer to £400 rather than £600.
 
If you don't mind used, you could pick up a near mint a few year old macbook pro within your budget. Get 13" if you need an ultra portable one. The specs will still be higher than most current wintops on the market.

Would prefer performance over weight.

i5-460M: 2592

Will give you some indication of relative perfromance. For comparison, my last workstation (which ran PS/LR fine) was an E8400 which is rated at 2200.
 
£600 will easily get you a Laptop. Try Dell.co.uk or PC Wolrd online or a host of others.
During my recent switch between jobs i have been using the Dell with Windows 7 that I bought my Daughter for £399.

Runs everything with ease. Take 1/2 a day and do web searches.
 
forget the notebook IMO... absolute joke for images... fine for browsing / email etc and there's no CD drive to install software.

if you are going to be using it for image manipulation i'd go for a minimum 15" screen... nothing worse than having to keep zooming in and out of images to tweak them. i got a Sony Vaio with 17" HD screen for less than £500 from a local dealer (sounds dodgy doesn't it)... but the clarity of the screen is absolutely bob on and it runs elements 9 with ease.
