Urgent help with 1.4 convertor please

Urgent Help!! please......needed for shoot at 3.30pm!!! Today!!!

I've hired a 1.4 convertor which was working fine when I tested it on arrival, then used it this morning and it was fine, now it just wont focus!
I took it off then put it back on it worked for three frames then stopped again.
I can't really see what there is to go wrong.
Any ideas folks?

FWIW It's on a D3s with 300mm 2.8 AFS EDII
 
Clean the contacts on the camera body, TC and the lens. Sounds like dirty contacts.

Don't laugh - a pencil eraser. The ones on the top of a pencil are best.

Make sure you blow out any remnants afterwards with a blower though (not your breath!)

OMG! Thank you so much guys, worked a charm :) (I must confess I thought you were on a wind up, when you said about the pencil eraser!)

One more thing for the kit bag.
