Has anyone bought Canon USA sourced items and had cause to use the warranty? Just wondering if it's a difficult procedure should the need arise.

Thanks,
Al

Thanks - Yes, I know about that, but wondered if anyone has gone through the procedure and how it worked out for them.

Is it a lens or a body?

It seems wrong if Canon UK won't fix something - still a Canon product surely?

if its a lens you ahve no problem.. just send to canon UK and they will fix it...

if its a camera body then your on dodgy ground.. officialy canon do NOT support imported bodies even if you ahve a uk reciept.. however enough people have had success in this area to show that they will.. but officialy (i asked) they dont..

Not really, why should Canon UK fix something for free that they never sold, have made no profit from and perhaps end up out of pocket.

It's fairly common in the retail industry, not only with photographic items due to varied warranty conditions from country to country.

G12 compact. My sister is thinking of buying and the best price is from a UK based dealer but US sourced.

Have had a reply:

Further to your enquiry please be advised that the US warranty is not valid in the UK and you would have to send your product to the US then if they are willing to accept products being shipped from so far, please contact Canon USA for more information on this. If you would prefer warranty which is valid in the UK, please purchase your product from a UK reseller.

thats promising.. sounds like they would honour the warranty if imported to say kerso and then you bought.. which seems silly but how it reads to me.

It's very grey isn't it (no pun intended!).

I've asked for further clarification.

I was told when I bought my 20D, thats a few years ago now, and it was a grey import that Canon wouldn't honour the guarantee, if anything wrong had to return it to the retailer I bought it from. Fortunately I had no problems. Things may very well have changed over the years though.
